Institute for Unlearning, Jaisalmer (India)

Institute of Unlearning is a master thesis project based in Jaisalmer that challenges deeply rooted gender stereotypes to promote equality and empowerment. Despite policy-level progress in India, social biases continue to shape the lives of many women. This project aims to create an inclusive, supportive environment that enables individuals to unlearn discriminatory beliefs and rebuild their lives with dignity.

Rooted in cultural and social research, the design is integrated with the stepwell typology and a series of interconnected courtyards that foster spontaneous interaction and community. With facilities for education, support services, and healing, the Institute works at the grassroots level to raise awareness, offer guidance, and empower women through architecture that is both protective and transformative.
