Zeitz, a historic city in east-central Germany, has witnessed severe population decline and economic stagnation due to deep deindustrialization. This project responds to these challenges with a citywide architectural strategy that reconnects people with their urban environment.
At the core of the proposal are prefabricated, modular structures that can be easily assembled in various public settings across Zeitz. These modules are designed not just as physical interventions but as platforms for civic dialogue—spaces where residents can voice their expectations, concerns, and ideas for their neighborhoods and the city at large.
Rather than architecture being shaped solely by a limited group of experts, this approach empowers the public to actively participate in defining the architectural brief. By initiating meaningful conversations and collecting feedback through these interactive modules, the project encourages co-authorship between citizens, designers, and local authorities—ultimately aiming to inspire social, economic, and spatial regeneration rooted in community needs.
